Here it is worth mentioning that there are also consumable knives, as they are usually called in the circles of Practitioners. These are ordinary knives, originally kitchen knives, bought in ordinary stores or markets. For consumables, knives with a black wooden or bone handle are suitable (it is allowed to paint). without metal rivets. They are not an independent tool, but rather a material that is used once in the ritual. For example, when we need to bury a photo under a willow (a rite of inducing longing through a willow) and, sticking a knife on top, leave this knife there ..
The black-handled knife, or Athame, is a tool used to draw magic circles and other inscriptions that are associated with many of the spells cast.
Some magicians, following the Kabbalistic tradition from the old magical Grimoires, using the key of Solomon, also use a white-handled knife, using it first to make a circle, and then for everything that should be ritually buried, engraved, cut off, pierced. Most modern witches, however, categorize the white-handled knife as an auxiliary tool and rely solely on Athame for their operations.
A black handled knife (Athame) is never used in love spells. Athame is a defensive and offensive tool.
Making an Athame knife
Buy a steel knife with a black handle; the blade should be about 5 to 6 inches (12 to 15 cm) long. When the moon is waxing, make a decoction of any Martian herbs in distilled water. Pour a few drops of blood into this concoction, either your own or according to tradition: a black cat, fresh steak, chicken or minced lamb from the nearest supermarket. It is best to use your own blood. Cleanse the knife with water from your goblet and incense mixed with some of the above herbs burned in your censer. Then heat the blade of the knife on the coals of the brazier until its temperature reaches its maximum.
To do this, you must maintain a good temperature. When the blade is heated, immerse it in the concoction you have prepared, at the same time conjuring up before you the image of the knife, blazing with energy after each immersion, while singing the following words:
"Steel blade - I conjure you Curse everything I tell you. That is my word, so be it!"
This tempering or tempering process, as it is commonly called, must be repeated three times. Having completed this, you must now magnetize the blade by rubbing it with magnetic ironstone or a bar magnet. Hold the knife in your left hand and the magnet by the edge in your right hand and, starting from the blade to the handle, move the end of the magnet along the entire length of the blade, at all points. Continue this for a good five minutes, each time rubbing in the same direction, humming the following words with each movement of the magnet:

And finally, write your own runic signs on the handle with white paint. In this case, you can again mix with the paint any powdered herbs that you used in your previous decoction. To charge each rune, chant each time:
"May you be blessed - a craft knife."
Then write your witch name on the back of the hilt, pronouncing the letters again to charge them, ending as usual:
"May it be so!"
At the end of everything, you must bury the knife for three days and three nights in the ground with the tip down. For this purpose, the backyard is suitable. After three days, dig out your knife, and, wrapping it in a piece of cloth that has been cleansed, carefully take it away. The knife is ready for future magical use.

Based on the existing "security levels" of the population, there are three conditional price categories for knives.

Consumer goods - from about 0 to 3000 rubles.
This category sells the most unreliable base steel knives. They will dull quickly, break easily, chip off the blade, or simply dent the cutting edge when they encounter a hard obstacle. It is difficult to sharpen such a knife, because the sharpener simply removes chips from it, and the blade is crammed during sharpening.
This junk is full on the shelves of "tourist" and "military" stores, in stalls, at stations, in transitions.
The use of such a knife as a ritual knife is undesirable, although without fish, as they say ... There are no rules prohibiting its use in a ritual, as long as the requirement of “one straight line” is observed (see below).

A good knife can be purchased in the price range from 3,000 to 15,000 rubles.
I advise you to pay special attention to the “mosaic” multilayer forging (“Damascus mosaic”) - I saw this only once in one copy at VDNKh. It cost about 9 thousand. Such knives are rarely found, but they are plastic and perfectly retain sharpening. At the same time, they sharpen to razor sharpness.
The second thing to note is the "Japanese" (especially the "tanto" form, but that's my personal preference). In this price range, you can find mostly three-layer forging from the Japanese, hardly anything more - real “Japanese” are very expensive.

Well, all sorts works of art - from 15,000 rubles and more.
Such knives rarely look pretentious. Most often, these are the classic forms of packet forged blades, with handles made of expensive wood species. The maximum - maybe, as a counterbalance, there will be such an unobtrusive, unobtrusive emerald of a thousand worth two dollars ...

SEVERAL RULES FOR BUYING A RITUAL KNIFE

PRINCIPAL RULES:
- The knife must have at least one straight line from the tip to the middle part of the guard, not extending beyond the blade. This is the condition for the correct current of force.
- The blade should not have marks and drawings that you cannot remove if you wish.
- The blade must go into the handle at least 1/3. Otherwise, you will not be able to change the handle yourself, and the consecration of the knife requires this.

COMFORT RULES:
- Never take knives of smart-ass shapes. The simpler the shape, the more effective the knife. Do you know which knife has the most shocking effect just by its appearance? A simple scalpel. Seriously.
- The knife should not be too long. The pigs are inconvenient.
- The blade of the knife should not be too narrow. This is unreliable and, again, inconvenient.
- The sharpening angle should not approach 40 degrees from the plane of symmetry. You will not sharpen such a knife yourself if you do not have professional skills.
- Do not take knives with stacked cork handles. Feel free to take off the handle. Rivets are much easier to knock off.
- The knife should not have an obvious finger rest - this is one of the requirements for "not a weapon", but the shape of the handle must be such that when using the knife, you do not leave your fingers on the ground. This can only be understood by holding a knife in one's hands.

Rules for SAFE storage and carrying:
- The knife should not be a cold weapon or a registered (having a passport and number, bought on a ticket) hunting knife.
- The knife in the store must give a certificate that confirms that the knife is not a weapon. Usually in such a certificate they write that the knife is a cutting one. Do not go out with a knife without a certificate.
- Carefully look at the certificate at the time of purchase.
- It MUST contain a picture of a knife.
You may be given a photocopy of the certificate. In this case, demand the seal of the store and pin a check to it. Certificate without blue seals is NOT VALID!
- Do not carry a knife in a bag without a sheath. Even if it is a butcher's or even a table one, to which a scabbard is not put constructively, you cannot carry an open blade in the city. They'll get it 100%. Wrap in a rag or newspaper if no scabbard is available.

In many occult and pagan traditions, magical knives are used during rituals. A Wiccan witch must have two knives: a bolin and an athame.

"Bolin" is a working knife that cuts plants, tree branches, cuts roots for potions, and other daily witch work is done. This knife should have a white or light-colored handle.

Athame is a ritual knife. It is he who serves to accumulate the energy of a magician or witch, as well as for the directed action of this energy. This knife should have a black handle, that is, one that absorbs energy.

Both magical knives must be made from natural materials. The blade is steel or copper (for Atam), but the handle is better made of bone, horn, ebonite or stone that can store energy.

Of course, the condition is considered ideal when the Atam is made by the magician himself, but modern witches prefer to buy suitable knives in the store. Naturally, purchased knives or daggers go through a lot of hands, so before you include them in your magical practice, you need to clean and tame them.

Cleaning Magic Knives

Purify any magic items that have been not only in your hands. They are usually cleaned with salt or salt water. Salt has the ability to reset any energy program that items receive from their previous owners.

In addition, you should prepare a decoction that will allow you to tie your knife to you. Such a decoction is prepared from equal parts of nettle, milkweed and onion. For example, for 500 milliliters of water, you need to take 2 tablespoons of nettle, milkweed and onion. Then boil it all for 20 minutes and cool. In the cooled broth, you will need to add a drop of your blood. A decoction is prepared for the growing moon, and its quantity should be such that the blade can be completely immersed in it. The decoction is placed in a cold place and stored until the first full moon, when it is used to bind the magic knife to the owner.

Also, for the ritual of purification and initiation, you will need a brazier with sand, on which you can light a charcoal tablet. Incense is placed on the coal, which cleanses the magic knife from negative information and energy. If you do not have incense in the form of resin that can be smoked on coal, then sandalwood incense can be used as a symbol of air. In addition, you will need salt water, a candle (preferably made from natural wax), salt to build a protective circle, a magnet and linen fabric without a pattern.

It is best to consecrate the Atam at night, on a full moon. Choose a day that is not associated with religious holidays. It would be ideal if you perform the ritual on the day, but you can choose any full moon.

Making a place for the ritual with a magic knife

We decorate the altar as it should be for most of the magical rituals. Of course, there are special altars made for the rituals of witches, on which sectors are indicated for all attributes and there are magical symbols. However, any table, bookcase or stool can become an altar. The altar is placed so that it is oriented to the cardinal points and around it it is possible to make a protective circle with salt. Most often, the altar is placed so that when performing the ritual, you can stand facing east. You can cover it with a veil with a pentacle in the center, if you have one. If there is no such coverlet or pentacle, then you can make a pentacle yourself. Just take a flat ceramic or faience dish with a diameter of 15-20 cm (it is important that there are no other drawings on it) and draw a pentagram on it with acrylic paint, inscribing it on the sides of the circle (that is, on the edges of the plate).

So, we put the altar facing east. A veil with a pentacle or a made pentacle should be oriented with the upper beam of the pentacle to the east. In the east, above the upper beam, a symbol of air is placed: either a censer with lit coal (burn incense crystals on it), or a stand with a smoking aroma stick (sandalwood). In the west, the symbol of water is a bowl of water. In the south, the symbol of fire is a candle (white or wax). In the north, the symbol of the earth is a bowl with earth or coarse salt. In the center, a deep vessel with a prepared decoction is placed on the pentacle. At the end of the ritual, it will be necessary to immerse the knife in it so that the blade enters entirely. To our left on the altar we put a bottle of salt water, to the right we put the future ritual knife. In a circle, you can put matches or a lighter, a magnet and a white dry napkin or towel on the floor near the altar. Now it remains to create a protective circle around yourself and the altar for the ritual. Traditionally, this is done with coarse, unrefined salt. However, some people practice soaking a white linen thread, rope or strip of fabric in salt water, which is then (after drying) tied in a large circle with a conspiracy to protect against spirits. This protective rope is kept in a leather or linen pouch containing protective runes and is used in place of a protective circle around an altar or ritual site. You can traditionally draw a circle around the altar with salt so that you can stand or walk freely in it. Do not neglect protection when you perform rituals, especially in your home. This will save you from unnecessary sharing of small and large spirits. Indeed, more often they feed on the energy of the one who called them or lives in a room where the ritual was performed incorrectly. Well, now the place for cleaning and charging the knife is ready.

Performing a ritual with a magic knife

Before the ritual, for a day, it is better not to eat meat. You should also take an herbal bath with sea salt or mint. It is necessary to wear clothing intended only for the ritual. It can be any clothes in which you feel free and comfortable, it is not necessary to buy a mantle. However, this clothing should be intended only for magical ritual, it is not necessary to wear it in everyday life. Ideally, if you can afford to enter the circle without clothing at all, so that when you exit the circle, it does not carry any information. Then you can just take a shower to wash off all excess energy with running water.

Entering the circle you need to activate the protection. We set fire to the aroma stick or throw incense on the coal set on fire in the brazier. At the same time, you need to say out loud or mentally: "The spirits of the east call you to defenders and witnesses." Next, we light a candle, saying the same thing, but for the spirits of the south. Then we dip our fingertips into the water and say the same for the spirits of the west. We place our palms over a bowl of earth and pronounce the words of the call for the spirits of the north. Then we say: “Spirits of the elements, I greet you, close the circle of protection!”.

Now we proceed to the ritual of cleaning the magic knife

We sprinkle the blade of the magic knife with salt water from the bottle. We mentally imagine how light energy spreads from the drops of salt water along the blade, expelling darkness from it. Next, we fumigate with incense or sandalwood, depending on what we have chosen as a symbol of air. Imagine how, together with fragrant smoke, everything dark and negative leaves the knife. Now we drive the blade over the candle flame imagining how all the negativity burns in the cleansing flame of fire. You can enhance your mood or the effect of visualizing the cleansing process with words. For example, to say: "I cleanse with salt, incense and fire - I expel the negative." After warming up the blade on the fire, lower it into the herbal decoction. Imagine, lowering the knife into the decoction, that the energy of fire comes from it, which connects with the energy of the decoction and the energy of your blood and returns back to the athame. Say a plot: “Steel blade, give me the will to subdue the forces of nature! My will is strong! May it be so!" For about 5 minutes we meditate on the magic knife lowered into the decoction, imagining how the brightness of the energy in it and the strength that it absorbs from the elements increase. Then we take it out and wipe it with a dry white napkin, which we had previously stocked near the altar in a circle. Now we take the knife in the left hand, and in the right hand we take the magnet and begin to magnetize it. The magnet above the knife moves in a circle, clockwise, 33 times.

The ritual is almost over, and therefore we put the magic knife flat on the vessel, with the blade to the north (left).

Now we deactivate the protective circle by turning our faces, in turn, to each side of the world, which corresponds to the element guarding your circle. We move counterclockwise. We start from the north and the Spirit of the water. We turn to face north, without leaving the circle, arms crossed at chest level, palms resting on the shoulders (right palm on the left shoulder, left on the right). This pose can be seen on the figurines of the gods and priests of Ancient Egypt. We say mentally or aloud: “Thank you Spirits of the North for coming to my aid. You are free!". Further, we repeat the same thing for the spirits of the west, south and, finally, the east. After that, the circle is deactivated, you can sweep away the salt, but it should not be thrown into the "trash can". It is better to bury it in the ground or, at worst, wash it off in running water.

Now we take a magic knife and bury it for three days in the ground. You can collect land in a bucket in advance if you live in a city apartment and you do not have your own plot. After being in the ground, the knife setting will be considered fully completed. Now it needs to be wrapped in linen, which is pre-washed in salt water, dried and fumigated with incense or sandalwood.

Now this is your magical knife, it will be magical only for you. Having such a knife tuned to you, you will feel how easy it is to concentrate your energy through it, you can achieve the desired result. You will no longer feel "like a squeezed lemon" after complex rituals. However, binding to a magic knife is a "double-edged sword." Now you are just as attached to it. Therefore, treat it with care. Try not to let any stranger pick it up. Evil and negativity directed at the knife can ricochet back at you. If you lose your magic knife, you can lose your power or part of it. Especially if many rituals have been performed with him and you have invested a lot of your own energy in him.

Ritual knives are an integral part of ceremonial and ritual magic. This also applies to the tradition of the Ancients, which is predominantly ritual and priestly in nature, requiring various ceremonies. This is where ritual knives are needed, which are needed for various purposes: for killing victims, for outlining ritual drawings, etc.

In this article, we will consider four variants of ritual knives, the manufacturing methods of which are taken from the well-known works on the magic of the Ancients: the Grimorium of the Imperium, Wilson's Necronomicon, the Book of Dagon, and also from the mysteries of the Worm.

So, scimitar Barzai:

Different versions of Liber Logaeth (Wilson's Necronomicon) give different symbols to be applied to the scimitar. Some versions state that they were absent from the original manuscript. I chose these symbols as the most successful, and similar to the writings of the Ancients (having reached certain heights in practice, a knowledgeable priest can develop his own and adapt them for himself). This blade serves to outline various calling circles and other ritual images. They also erase traces of emblems, call seals and so on from the ground.

I think this scimitar is perfect for other purposes - for example, for sacrifices. Actually, it is universal: it serves for any magical work, the manufacture does not require any rare materials and super efforts. The only disadvantage of this scimitar is the loss of its power when touched by other people's hands. So hide it well from prying eyes and grabbing hands. The following is a quote-instruction from Liber Logaeth:

Now consider the sorcerer's dagger from the Book of Dagon. This option is very good. After all, the sacrificial knife described in this book does not require any complex manipulations and hard-to-reach materials. Actually, as a blank, any new knife will do, assuming the presence of a sheath (if there is no sheath, you need to make them yourself). Preferably with a cedar handle (You can remove the old handle and replace it with cedar). Then you need to put the appropriate symbols on the handle of the knife, as well as on the sheath. These symbols, in the amount of three, are called tetals. Two symbols will go to the knife handle, one to the sheath. I quote:

Another option is a ritual knife from the Grimorium Imperium manuscript, allegedly owned by John Dee. The sorcerer's dagger from this manuscript is not difficult to manufacture, with the exception of one point - strict observance of the order of manufacture of magic tools. That is, pulling it out of the general scheme will not work, you need to make either all the tools and attire, or nothing. For more information, I advise you to refer to the manuscript itself. Actually, I quote the process of making only a knife (do not forget about the manufacture of all items):
“Having cut the stick, the next day take a new knife, the blade of which has not known the blood of man or animal, and in the hour of Mercury, draw on the knife the following signs *. After that, at the same hour, you must consecrate the knife by placing it in the flames of fire so that it is cleansed”

*Know this: the triangular sign at the end of the knife is the essence of the Gesture described above, performed by the fingers.

And the last, most exotic type of the well-known ritual knife is the magic knife from the book "Secrets of the Worm", called Faynzeh. It is exotic in that it requires specific materials for manufacturing (a handle made of human bone), and also must have an unusual blade with three notches. There may be alternative materials besides bones, but this should be checked privately by practicing priests. Here is the manufacturing method and the symbols that need to be applied to the knife:

Perhaps these characters are incomplete. Therefore, I advise beginner practitioners to limit themselves to the first three options. From my purely subjective point of view, the second and third versions of ritual knives are the most attractive in terms of their advantages. Also, Barzai's scimitar is a very good option, however, there are doubts about the veracity of the symbols that need to be applied to the blade. Also with Faynzeh, whose symbols (probably) have inaccuracies, and also the reverse side is questionable: is a one-sided drawing needed, or are the symbols on the second side not indicated for some reason.
